Environmental and Landscape Topics

The following topics have been drawn directly from community input into suggested survey topics and themes. This section covers topics that were within the Environmental and Landscape Theme.

  • Preserving Falmouth’s existing look and feel
  • Creating and protecting open space
  • Preserving lands for habitat and recreation
  • Preserving rural areas and rural feel
  • Enhancing coastal protection
  • Creating corridor connections between open spaces
  • Focusing on environmental sustainability
  • Adopting green building standards
  • Embracing renewable energy
  • Adopting zero-waste and net zero carbon goals
  • Creating buffers between development areas

Survey participants were asked to score each topic on its importance to shaping the future of Falmouth.
SCALE: 1 = Not Important  to 10 = Highly Important

To simplify the data in this chart, the responses were groups as follows:

  • 1,2,3 = Not important
  • 4,5,6,7 = Neutral
  • 8,9,10 = Important

Key things to note:

  • All of the topics were perceived as important by the majority of respondents.
  • Especially important were the topics:
    • Creating and Protecting open space
    • Enhancing coastal protection
    • Preserving lands for habitat and recreation
  • Overall, there appears to be a strong perception that Environmental and Landscape topics will be important for shaping the future of Falmouth.
