Environmental Management

Environmental management and protection has been identified as an overarching high value priority for the community. In recent periods the community has invested heavily in buying and protecting open space, with some 20% of total land area now set aside. Future environmental management and focus could continue on this track (buying more land for open space); or an expanded approach could include embracing overall sustainability practices across the whole community, such as emission reduction, renewable energy, waterways and habitat; as well as optimizing the use of the existing open space.

What focus do your think Falmouth should adopt in the future? Please select your preference on the following continuum:

  • 1 = PROTECT OPEN SPACE – Environmental protection and open space is maximized, with efforts to expand on the open space with more land purchases.
  • 10 = EXPAND SUSTAINABILITY APPROACH – Open space is optimized and there is an intentional investment in cutting-edge, sustainable resource management practices across the whole community landscape.

Key things to note:

  • The data skews towards ‘Protect Open Space’. This appears consistent between most cohort groups, but skews slightly more this way in older demographics.
  • Overall, people under 30 lean more to ‘Expand Sustainability Approach’.
