Future Development

The Vision and Values process has highlighted that people want to ensure that future development in Falmouth does not overwhelm the community or occur too fast. Managing and guiding the pace and type of development is a key current and future focus of the Town planning.

What do you think is the best future approach for Falmouth to guide future development? Please select your preference on the following continuum:

  • 1 = RESTRICT GROWTH – Housing stock and availability is significantly limited by growth restrictions that preserve the character of single-family homes in semi-rural settings. Commercial development is restricted, and growth is as slow as possible.
  • 10 = CAREFULLY MANAGE GROWTH – Growth is very carefully planned to protect rural areas and existing neighborhoods while creating options for housing stock in new and existing mixed-use growth areas. Innovative models create housing diversity and options, with some areas of subtle density and commercial development in a defined town center.

Key things to note:

  • The data shows some polarity, with sizable cohorts of over 20% at each end of the continuum. This is similar to Community Survey #1 where people highlighted a desire to limit the rate of growth.
  • People who have lived in Falmouth for over 20 years lean towards ‘Restrict Growth’; where as those who have lived here for less than 20 years lean towards ‘Carefully Manage Growth’.
