Preferred Future Based On Combined Key Themes – Cohort ‘Where People Live’

This chart uses the data in the previous chart combines the individual responses based on where people live (example – which neighborhood).

  • DEVELOPMENT TRAJECTORY – Traverse City is the focal center of the region, and is attracting new investments and developments. New developments can alter the character of a community, and bring both new opportunities and challenges. What do you think should be the approach to dealing with future development in Traverse City? SCALE: 1 = Let the market dictate development and infrastructure; to, 10 = Proactively guide and manage development and urban design
  • COMMUNITY DIRECTION – Traverse City is becoming increasingly attractive for visitors and new residents. This is being accelerated by more remote-work patterns, and people having more choice where they live. Climate change is also beginning to drive retiree populations to look to the north. These types of changes can alter local issues such as affordability and demographic make-up of the community. What do you think should be the approach to dealing with community direction in Traverse City? SCALE: 1 = Let the community naturally change and evolve as the population demographics shift; to, 10 = Intentionally invest in retaining and supporting a balanced and liveable community.

Survey participant responses were then plotted over the scenario framework matrix. The larger the bubble, the more responses selected on that point of the chart.

Key things to note:

  • The data shows a remarkable consistency about the ‘preferred future’ between the various neighbourhood cohorts.
  • In addition, some 20% of the responses are from outside the city limits, however they share the same perspective about future direction.
  • This chart can be filtered (on the right hand side) to allow you to explore responses by different cohorts.
