Cohesion and Unification

Respondents were asked to respond to a question about:

PROFESSIONAL COHESION AND UNIFICATION:

“There has been a lot of discussion about the issue of profession unification, divisions and divergent views. This is a complex issue, given the scope of the profession and the industry structure. Where do you think the profession should be aiming for the future?”

SCALE (1-10):
1 = Leave the profession as it is.
10 = Work to create an overarching profession with recognized specializations.

Key things to note:

  • This data skews generally to the right-hand side of the continuum, highlighting a desire to move in that direction.
  • This desire ‘Work to create an overarching profession with recognized specializations’ has been a repeated theme throughout the visioning and planning work. This focus is seen as important to build industry unification by many, however it is not a unanimously supported direction.

Survey respondents were also given the opportunity to provide open ended responses, as to ‘WHY’ they chose that point on the scale.
